Problem sending mail with BCC (and without "To")
Hi, my Exch 2003 SP2 server is making me crazy When I send a mail (Outlook or OWA same problem) to people into "BCC" field but with blank "To" field, people receive the mail as I sent it without BCC (they can see to who I sent the mail - if there are from the same domain - as gmail for example).I isoleted the problem. My problem is located in the Exchange server. 1) I bypassed my mailrelay -> same problem 2) I disabled all my Anti Viruses/fw intelligent protections/Anti Spywares ... -> same problem 3) I bypassed (only) my exchange server (I configures Outlook with my SMTP server instead of my exchange server)-> no problem with bcc Anyone knows something about this problem ? I don't mean to suggest you aren't seeing what you are seeing, but I cannot reproduce this issue. From my Exchange 2007 server (via Outlook 2007) I bcc'ed my gmail account and one other gmail recipient I know. I then logged into gmail.com and didnt see the other person i sent it to. The message appears as it should. I then opened another Outlook profile and via POP3 downloaded this same message and again, I do not see any To or CC recipients.Do I understand your issue and did I replicate the circumstances properly?Can you post the headers from the message for further analsys?Mike Crowley: MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator

Thank you for helping, 1) yes I guess you understood the issue. When I open my gmmail account, I can see the mail was sent to 2 gmail accounts even if i wrote the 2 adresses into BCC field. By the way, there is no issue ifI put something into "TO" field. I see that you are going through outmail.x.x and av-int2.x.x. I would focus your troubleshooting here, or temporarily bypass these nodes and see if the problem still exists. Hi, From the message header, I notice the following message header entry exists: To: <user1@gmail.com> To: <user2@gmail.com> I would like to explain that for BCC message, the above two header entries should not exist. At this time, please let me know: 1. Whether the issue can always be reproduced? 2. Whether the issue only occurs when sending to specific external recipients or all external recipients. For example, please bcc the message to me at v-mishen@microsoft.com 3. Whether the message is submitted through SMTP or Mapi? Mike

1) the issue is not always reproduced when mails are sent via Outlook - it is when it is sent via OWA (and as I said before, the issue is never happening when "TO" field is not empty)2) I sent you a test mail to you and a Microsoft junk mailand to 2 gmails accounts(you will see only that it was sent to 2 Microsoft recipients)3) all my users are configured via AD to Exchange (OWA or Outlook) then the message is sent via SMTPThank you for helping

I just wanted to share with you the solution of our "BCC" sending mail problem. As you remember, when my users were sending an email from there exchange account to recipients via "BCC" field (without anything into "TO" field), the recipients were able to see to which addresses the mail was sent (in the same domain). The "problem" wasn't permanent and sometimes it was working fine (most of the time, not) After a lot of troubleshooting, we re-installed our mail relay server with only IIS SMTP component and everything starts to work fine. The reason we didn't do it before is because we stopped every spam, anti-virus options in the former server and the former server was configured only as mail relay (Symantec AV for SMTP Gateways). I guess stopped sometimes security applications still have some effects even stopped. Thanks Mike for the help. Without you, I am not sur I was able to find the solution of my problem :)
